Man oh man has it been a great airshow season. Tons of fabulous planes from all over the country, but none can hold a candle to my own backyard. In Clermont County, Ohio lies a wonderful museum in the sleepy suburbs. It’s tucked away next door to a small airport that mainly sees Cessna’s and Beechcraft, maybe the occasional Piper. But on this day, it saw such beautiful sights as a P-51 Mustang, a P-40 Warhawk, a TBF Avenger, Piper scout planes, the gorgeous B-25 Mitchell bomber, and some absolutely stunning Texans and liason craft. I was lucky enough to be sitting there shooting and soaking it all in.
Suddenly, a call went out across the field. A raffle, to win a seat flying in the B-25. I didn’t know of such an event and was even more shocked when I heard my name read off. I had to steady myself with the monopod, I’d won something? Something as amazing as a flight on world war two bomber? I almost died. I could have died happy, but I wanted to get into the air first.
Fast forward an hour and I’m flying in the waist gun positions of the fantastic bomber, screaming laughing, and feeling like a child again. I’ll never forget this moment for the rest of my life. Hey, I even remembered to shoot some photos up there!
Keep on keepin’ on,
KM
